We’re also able to provide insights on how our investments, partnerships, and activities in Texas have benefited the state’s economy. In Texas, the take-home amount in gross revenue for driver-partners in 2017 was more than $540 million. This amount represents all money earned by Uber’s driver and delivery partners, net of service fees using the apps.
A recent study by the Economic Development Research Group (EDRG) measured the economic impact of Uber in Texas. EDRG’s study found that Uber is a major economic contributor to our state’s economy:

The net impact of Uber on state income is $181 million annually.

Across Texas, more than 25% of drivers were unemployed before partnering with Uber.

Altogether, 16.8% of Uber trips in Texas are for business travel.

EDRG also found that about 12.6% of Uber trips in Texas are taken by out-of-town visitors, and 24.5% of visitors report spending more during their trip because Uber enabled them to visit additional locations.

When asked about their most recent trip, 5.2% of respondents said they used the service to connect to a bus or rail line.

14% of Uber trips in Texas were reported to allow riders to visit destinations that they could not access without Uber.

Overall, 89% of drivers also earn income from other sources.
